Longleaf seedlings part of sustainability class

Fay Fowler stood in a clearing at Ev-Henwood Nature Preserve on a sunny Sunday afternoon, using a measuring tape to mark off a circular plot of land for longleaf pine seedlings. After making sure no other plants had been placed nearby, Fowler motioned to her partner, who plunged the flat end of a bright orange digging tool into the soil and carved out a 5-inch hole for the sapling.
